It’s easy to run on habit at work, especially if I’ve been in the same job a while. Muscle memory kicks in, or I respond to the same problems with the same solutions–after all, I’ve been here before.
But one of the gifts of recovery is the possibility of growth and change. As I recover, I might develop new skills, discover new creativity, and meet new challenges. It’s good to put my hard-earned knowledge to work. But it’s also good to accept that there might be things I don’t yet know.
Today, I will consider using a version of the Set Aside Prayer in my workday: “God, help me set aside everything I think I know about ___ so that I might have a new experience.” To follow my Higher Power’s will for me, sometimes I have to be willing to move. If he wants me to have a new experience at work, I need to be willing and open-minded before I can pursue it.
