Emotional Sobriety

·

Work is a great place to react emotionally. On any given day, I might encounter someone who either treats me badly or reminds me of someone who once treated me badly. There’s also money involved with work, and that often touches my sense of Source, my feeling that I have what I need and deserve love and care. My work life can be a minefield of emotions.

In recovery, I begin to swim toward emotional sobriety. It might feel like an elusive goal, but I can keep swimming. And my program teaches me that emotional sobriety can be found in one place: in a Power greater than myself.

Today, if I’m thinking a lot about work and reacting with strong feelings, I will ask my Higher Power to help me see what he wants me to see. I will strive to stay present and wait for that Power’s direction, leaning on him as a source of contentment and calm.
