Sometimes in one area of my life or another, I become aware that I need a lot of work. I don’t like the way I set boundaries (or don’t) at work; I see that my family life needs lots of attention; I recognize a pattern in myself that seems hard to change.
This can feel overwhelming. But as much as I might want to meet the challenge with the full force of my energy, I’ve seen time and again that sometimes gentleness just works better, and that unless a Higher Power takes a hand in my life, it becomes unmanageable.
Today if I’m hoping to make big changes, I will go about my daily tasks while holding one simple thought in my mind, like: “I can’t, You can, please do,” or “Let Go and Let God.” Of course I need to take the actions only I can take. But by folding my mind around a recovery principle, I can turn my will over to God moment by moment and give my Higher Power a space to guide my life.
