Am I fixated on a problem at work today? If so, what is outside my power? Maybe it’s a boss’s attitude toward me (or people in my demographic). Maybe it’s the way my company hires and trains people. Maybe it’s a coworker’s abilities. Whatever it is, I can allow my life to become unmanageable when I focus on the things I can’t do anything about rather than the things I can.
Today, if I have a problem at work, I’ll reflect on Steps One, Two, and Three as reflected in a common recovery saying: “I can’t. God can. I’ll let him.” I will ask for the wisdom to see what I can do and for the courage to do it. I will remember that sometimes the thing I need to let God do is remove something from me, like an obsession or a defect of character, rather than change someone or something outside of me. And I will cultivate hope by remembering all the times I’ve asked for help and received it.
