Listen and Learn

·

What is the state of my mind when I walk into work every day? Am I paying attention to what’s going on around me? Do I think I need to prove myself, or do I think I’m above the position I have now? Am I willing to listen — really listen — to what others around me are saying?

Today, I will practice being teachable. I will acknowledge that I don’t know everything (and that I can’t know what I don’t know). I will resist the urge to present myself as an infallible expert by talking about things I don’t fully understand.

But in practicing the slogan “Listen and Learn,” I will avoid the extreme of hypervigilance. I will take in new information, but remember that I don’t have to know everything. I can trust that my job is in the hands of a Power greater than myself. If I’m doing what I can — even imperfectly — I can trust that things will work out the way they should.
